Sandra Dee won her won a Golden Globe Award for "Most Promising Newcomer" in 1958. Her film career flourished, and she became known for her wholesome ingenue roles in such films as Imitation of Life, Gidget and A Summer Place.
Sandra Dee was diagnosed of renal failure, or kidney failure a situation in which the kidneys fail to function adequately and throat cancer. She died on February 20, 2005.
